One of the core services of Realgene is protein production. We are utilizing various methods depending on the customer’s needs.
At present, we offer prokaryotic expression using E.coli, and eukaryotic protein expression utilizing yeast and mammalian cells.
If you are unsure of which expression host to use, we recommend the use of yeast for general uses.

Prokaryotic:This is the traditional method for obtaining large amounts of proteins. It is also the fastest. However the disadvantage that many eukaryotic proteins do not fold correctly and are present as inclusion bodies. We can provide these inclusion bodies in urea or Guanidium chloride, however we are not able to do refolding procedures unless there are known conditions. We can provide proteins in the soluble fraction that do not require refolding. 
          
Yeast: Mammalian cell protein production does take longer and more expensive than the other hosts, therefore we suggest utilizing yeast for protein that will be subject to routine laboratory uses. Yeast is relatively quick, and has been used to express eukaryotic proteins effectively and efficiently.

Baculovirus/Insect cells: This method takes a little longer than yeast, and has been used effectively to express eukaryotic proteins. It is a less expensive process than mammalian cells. However, it generally does involve the use of Baculoviruses.

Mammalian cells: We recommend the use of mammalian protein production is recommended for proteins that will be assayed for important biological assays, and proteins that do not refold correctly in other hosts. Mammalian cell production has the advantage of being able to express a wider range of eukaryotic proteins with correct folding, thus ensuring more native biological activity. However, it is a lengthy and expensive methods.
